The International Anti-Fur Coalition is a coalition of groups, individuals and organizations working together to put an end to the atrocious Fur industry around the world, and currently focusing on the Chinese fur industry. http://fur.arforum.org/

 

April 13 2006 will be the second International Day of Protest against the Chinese Fur Industry. This time, instead of protesting in front of Chinese embassies and consulates we will reach into them using e-mail, telephone and fax lines and even old-fashioned paper mail.

 

An estimated 2,000,000 dogs and cats are killed every year for the fur trade, mostly in the Far East, in countries such as China and the Philippines. Dog and cat fur is used in a wide variety of products including fur coats and jackets, hats, gloves, decorative accessories, blankets.

STOP THE BRUTAL SLAYING OF DOGS AND CATS IN SOUTH KOREA

 

We are trying to stop the brutal slaying of dogs and cats in South Korea.

 

These animals are caged night and day in small cages with no room to move, defecate, breath, some are dead and rigomortified under others. Cats are beaten to death in sack to make cat soup. South Korea does have an Animal Protection Law 1991 but the government turns a blind eye and let these poor animals be killed in cruel inhumane ways. There are over 6000 resturants in South Korea that have dog and cat on the menu. Over 2million dogs and cats are killed inhumanely each year to satisfy the need to eat dogs and cats. This must be stopped, no more pain for these animals.

AGAINST DOG MEAT TRADE IN THE PHILIPPINES

 

The Philippines is one of the few Asian countries where progressive laws exist to protect animals from cruelty and abuse, including the implementation of a law in 1998 forbidding the eating of dog meat. This law is now seriously under threat: there is a proposal to legalise the dog meat trade in Baguio province.

STOP FUR-FARMING COMPLEX FROM BEING BUILT IN NORWAY

 

While fur farming has been banned in the UK, Norway’s Hå Municipality and Norwegian fur farmers are planning to build a massive fur-farming complex in Rogaland, in the western part of Norway. The complex would be the largest in Norway and would house more than 110,000 animals. Several fur farmers have shown interest in the complex.The majority of Norwegians are against the fur farming.

The Cruel Seal Hunt Has Begun. Canada's annual seal hunt, the largest slaughter of marine mammals on the planet, began at dawn on March 25. Last year, 98.5% of the seals killed were two months of age or younger—and veterinary reports indicate that many seals have been skinned while still conscious and able to feel pain.

STOP RUSSIAN SEAL HUNT

 

Despite many years of campaigning to try and prevent the annual seal pup hunt in the White Sea region of Russia, European Animal Welfare (EAW) supported by North Kent Animal Welfare (NKAW) are still largely hitting a brick wall when it comes to getting the EU to act.

Stavros Dimas, Member of the European Commission has been promising EU action on the Russian seal hunt for a long time now.

In the Republic of South Africa, the Cape Fur Seals are consider “res nullius”, meaning they have no owner, and therefore, they have no animal rights protection, as they are not considered Sentient Beings.

The problems started when the Romanian media announced that a Japanese citizen died in Bucarest after being bitten by a stray.

TV stations organized all sorts of talk shows presenting the serious overpopulation problem all over the country, the lack of real solutions applied so far to control and/or diminish this problem. They compared how quickly and efficiently the problem was solved years ago in Western Europe.

SAVE THE DOGS OF SERBIA

 

We were to Subotica (Serbia) with the vet, doctor Carlos Rossetti. We visit the shelter, all the dogs are in very good conditions, healthy and with no fleas. The vet only made an injection to a puppy because of the distemper. Boxes are clean; the kitchen is very clean; they have a very good organization for managing the shelter.

The torturing of horses used as test animals in the Refik Saydam Hygiene Center

 

Many people have watched on TV show “Dechipher” (Desifre in Turkish), broadcasted on Star TV, the torturing of horses used as test animals in the Refik Saydam Hygiene Center (Refik Saydam Hifzisihha Enstitusu in Turkish). The images showed, 6 kilos of blood being drawn from the horses, without using anesthetics, the horses being dragged on the ground pressed on the necks, making the animal cry and moan, and the torture continued for hours. We have learned that this cruelty has been going on since 1968.

AGAINST DOG KILLING IN TURKEY

 

The sad story of dogs found in Mamak. Hundreds of stray dogs dumped by the municipalities were found in the Mamak municipal waste disposal site in Ankara. Some of the dogs were already killed before dumping; puppies were put into sacs and died choking.

 

Act no 5199 is completely ignored both by the municipalities in Ankara and by the Ministry of Interior responsible for inspecting the municipalities.
